RELEASE: Quickie Mart - "Ass Rotation"

From: whitefolksgetcrunk.com

I enjoy bounce music best when it sounds a lot like bounce music. This does a great job of doing that. Super dope.

RELEASE: Jes Hudak - "Dirty Filthy Liar" (Know One Remix)

From: DJBooth.net

Previously heard contributing guest bars to Meat Market, a 2012 single from Los Angeles duo Bang, You’re Dead (Jes Hudak and Quickie Mart), rapper/producer Know One returns to make his DJBooth debut as a headliner. For his first feature, the New Orleans native’s elected to exercise his skills on both sides of the boards by remixing Dirty Filthy Liar, one of Hudak’s solo records. In addition to providing a crisp, keyboard-driven beat (Jes and Quickie Mart assist on the production tip), Know One showcases his melodic flows in a brisk second verse, and engages in a little call-and-response with the singer on the chorus. This is just one of many remixes, rarities and B-sides on to be found on Know One Special, out now on iTunes.

Gypsyphonic Disko (Ben Ellman and Quickie Mart) wishing you a Happy Hanukkah with NOLA bounce superstar, Katey Red

How did you spend the last evenings of Hanukkah 2012, which ended Saturday, December 15? Did you fry up a last batch of potato latkes – or maybe watch Adam Sandler’s goofy animated film “Eight Crazy Nights”?

Galactic saxophone player Ben Ellman and DJ/Producer Quickie Mart were in a back alley in downtown New Orleans, gambling with some half-naked ladies.

VIDEO: Ricky B "Shake For Ya Hood (Quickie Mart remix)"

from MySpiltMilk.com

[NSFW] When I started working on the Oxford American music issue, one of the two songs that I knew I wanted to include was Ricky B's bounce classic, "Shake Fa Ya Hood." Fortunately, we were able to include the song, unlike Bobby Marchan's "Rocking Behind the Iron Curtain," which we couldn't clear for use. The issue is out now, and engineer Rick Clark made the song sound great following Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas' "Old Man's Darling."

Quickie Mart has remixed "Shake Fa Ya Hood" to connect bounce and Ricky B with the EDM market; here's the official video to accompany the release, including footage of Quickie Mart rocking the crowd and Ricky B cruising on a Segway. Here are videos for the new and old version. On the CD, we used the clean version, which Ricky B considers the authoritative version. This YouTube clip of is the explicit version.

Bam! Gotham Green & Quickie Mart‘s new rap opus Haze Diaries, Vol. 4 is here. Or perhaps I should say, Poof. Mills, El Prez and Grafh (!) amongst a grip of other solid pinch-hitters and fireball slangers. from OkayPlayer.com

Say what you will about the names of the artists involved on this track but you might soon be catching “All I Know” bumping from a ride or two on your block. With the Freddie Gibbs stamp of approval (in the form of a murderous guest verse), you can even get away with an auto-tuned hook. This is taken from the latest, fourth installment of Gotham Green and Quickie Mart‘s Haze Diaries series, which will also feature appearances from Planet Asia, El Prez, Grafh and others. They found Grafh! How dope is that?

Justin Mooty and Jordan Will Nance make up Art Majours, an electric dance music duo from Shreveport, Louisiana. They started playing rock electronica in a band at the ages of 13 and 14. REVIEW: "All I Know" ft. Freddie Gibbs & T. Mills - Gotham Green & Quickie Mart

from djbooth.net

With the clock winding down toward the release of Gotham Green and DJ Quickie Mart‘s Haze Diaries Vol. 4, the duo has been gracious enough to drop off yet another banger from their forthcoming project. Green and Mart refuse to go at it alone on All I Know as they enlist CTE emcee Freddie Gibbs and West Coast singer/rapper T. Mills. Gibbs kicks the lyrical door wide open on the opening verse of All I Know as he effortlessly sets the tone for the song. The brash tone of All I Know continues as Gotham Green boldly raps, “F**k the world, f**k ya girl, motherf**k a hater/ These labels they can suck a d**k they don’t want to sign me.” Rounding out the song is Mills’ surprisingly lax hook and Quickie Mart’s keys-heavy production. The wait for Haze Diaries Vol. 4 will finally come to an end when the project drops on August 14.

VIDEO: Gotham Green & Quickie Mart "The Hard Way"

from
djbooth.net

While learning lessons The Hard Way isn’t always ideal the fact of the matter is that it’s just another harsh reality, which is what emcee Gotham Green discusses on the unapologetic The Hard Way. Gotham Green partners up with project collaborator Quickie Mart, who handles the production on what is our second featured record off of the duo’s Haze Diaries Vol. 4 project. QM matches Green’s rap realism on the record with his equally aggressive and raw production. Set in a gloomy black and white backdrop the newly released music video for The Hard Way also mimics the tone of the record. Haze Diaries Vol. 4 will be available for free download on August 14.

REVIEW: Gotham Green & Quickie Mart "Everything" ft. El Prez

from djbooth.net

I know, I know, we’ve been missing new music from Gotham Green and Quickie Mart too. But after a hiatus filled with touring, moves and solo projects, the dynamic duo are back at it with new single Everything. For the beat Quickie Mart sticks to his New Orleans roots to bring the feeling of live music and non-stop partying to Everything, a party that LEADERSH!T guest El Prez is only too happy to kick off on an uptempo opening verse. Gotham Green jumps in to close out the festivities on the second verse, but the good times are far from over; the duo’s fourth installment of their Haze Diaries series, this time produced entirely by Quickie Mart, is on its way. See, good things do come to those that wait.

INTERVIEW: Ben Ellman chats with NOLA.com about the new Gypsyphonic

from nola.com

Bounce chants go well with New Orleans brass band music, it’s been proven – and the wild stomp of Eastern European dance music, using familiar brass instruments, is not dissimilar to the rhythm of a Crescent City street parade. Still, the logical leap (admittedly, not the most obvious thing in the world) to bring all three together as one frantically danceable multicultural mashup had so far eluded DJs until recently. During the making of Galactic’s eclectic 2010 album Ya Ka May, sax player Ben Ellman found himself inspired by the sounds of bounce rappers like Big Freedia, Sissy Nobby, Cheeky Blakk and Katey Red, who appeared on the album alongside more traditional New Orleans vocalists like Irma Thomas.

INTERVIEW: Quickie Mart chats with Offbeat about Gypsyphonic and coming up in New Orleans

from  Offbeat Magazine

Quickie Mart [Martin Arceneaux] is talking about Gypsyphonic Disko‘s new release, NOLAphonic, Volume Two, which is out now (hear individual tracks here). It’s his project with Galactic’s Ben Ellman, merging bounce primarily with klezmer and Eastern European music. They released volume one in 2010, followed that Christmas by a gypsyphonic version of “The Little Drummer Boy,” adding Katey Red to Neil Diamond’s track. Last football season, Gypsyphonic Disko cut “Crunk-O-Phonic,” which set the Ying Yang Twins’ vocals to “Halftime (Stand Up and Get Crunk)” against a string-band backing, complete with an accordion solo.

INTERVIEW: Quickie Mart chats with Loyola College on the NOLA 18+ live show ban

from  LoyolaMaroon.com

If you are under 21 in New Orleans, your night life might be in jeopardy.
An ordinance presented by City Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson to ban anyone under 21 from entering bars and music venues has been referred to the Criminal Justice Committee, and a meeting is tentatively set for March 28. The vote was delayed mid-February so that the city council could reflect on the community reactions to the ordinance and allow members of the New Orleans music community to respond. Council members declined to release any official statements to The Maroon on the ordinance until the re-evaluation process is completed. FULL ARTICLE HERE

AUDIO: Bang, You're Dead - "Meat Market" ft. Wax and Know One

from DJBooth.net

The last time Bang, You’re Dead dropped a record at the Booth, they traveled to Arizona, making us confident that they’ll continue to take us on a ride. Now, they team up with Def Jam‘s Wax and New Orleans’s wordsmith Know One for their latest offering, Meat Market, to push another volt of electricity through your musical veins. Bang, You’re Dead matches wit with will in this paced delivery of rhymes and sounds that make this song a perfect fit for the Kill Bill Vol. 3 soundtrack (if, you know, Tarantino were to ever make another one). Quickie Mart, the production-gifted half of BYD, puts together a dramatic spin of guitars and horns that for music that’s as raw as it is rap, effortlessly flipping hip-hop lovers on their heads; a feeling only enhanced by Wax’s always off-kilter flow and Know’s verbal acrobatics. While this single is unattached to a larger project, for more boundary pushing check out the release of Bang’s Alive remix, dropping on Valentine’s Day on Beatport.com, and watch Wax rip it live with The DJBooth at SXSW on March 17.
